Shining Sun Vanishing Fog

Have you seen a cloud near the ground? Well, some of you might have seen, also you might have noticed that these clouds disappear when the Sun rises. Am I right? You might be curious why it happened and some of you might know the answer for the disappearance. So, what exactly is this cloud?

First, it is not an actual cloud that we see in the sky it is a fog, which in meteorological terms we say is the cloud near the ground. You might have noticed that when you are driving your car in the early morning of winter, you cannot see the roads clearly, the visibility will be so low. That is the feeling the fog gives us. It’s hard to see what is in front of us. There are different types of fog, but we are restricting today’s topic to only one of its types, and that is radiation fog.

Have you wondered why these fogs don’t occur daily, instead they are forming only on particular days or seasons. This is because they need a special condition for them to form like the ingredients we use to make particular dishes. The ingredients for radiation fog formation are a clear sky, light wind (1-5 kmph) and 100% relative humidity. This type of fog disappears when the sun rises, as heat received from the sun changes these conditions. This means the radiation fog vanishes when the sun rises.

You can see the radiation fog in the pictures shared here.

These are small things that happen around us regularly. Enjoy them by knowing the science behind them.
