Do you know plants do need directions?

When we travel, we will be well aware of our directions like whether we have to go East (E) or West (W) or North (N) or South (S) right? Some of us use left and right turns instead of EWNS too. In this post I am discussing EWNS directions. In some Indian customs, we use this direction for many things, like for rituals to get blessings from our elders they must stand Eastern side for giving their blessings, in building house again East facing is good and so on there are n number of these things we follow. If you ask, is there any scientific reason for these? yes, some does like east facing house brings morning sun to your doorstep.

Do you believe that plants do like to use the directions?...

Most of our answers will be No... We will think, why do plants need directions and what they are going to do by knowing them?...

If so then have you ever noticed in your or others terrace garden or home garden that some plants will grow, in particular direction to get sufficient sunlight...

You can try this, by moving a plant kept in the sun to partial shade and you can notice the difference in the sun loving plants.

Now if the answer to the above question changed to yes, then you have understood the importance of direction to the plants.

Quick bite
In agriculture too the solar radiation (sun rays) is important for plant growth. The sowing row directions have effect on crop production. North-south row orientation produces higher growth compared to East-West row orientation as the NS orientation have proper sun light penetration that helps the plant for good photosynthesis and well developed root system that will help them for better uptake of water and soil nutrients.
