Mostly in winter season after a cool, calm night when we woke up and see some small drops of water over green grass or any other crops, have you ever wondered what they are called?. Many of you might have known them, yes, they are dew. When we are kids we use to play with them, we use to admire them like wow its water drop on the tip of the plant right? This Dew is one of an awesome weather for me. If you ask why ? it's simple...I just like to see them, especially when sun rays glitters through the droplets.
The above is the photo taken by me when I was doing my doctorate. In the photo is the rice plant with beautiful dew drops. An enjoyable view indeed.
I always wondered why we are unable to see the dew drops every day. If it's an every day phenomena we may not admire them right?
Now, let us think why it is not happening every day. Well, for a phenomena to occur there should be some conditions. Likewise, for dew to occur, we should have a calm night, you might be thinking calm means without noise....definitely not in this case. Here calm night means very light wind, clear sky (sky without clouds) so all the radiation from earth escapes and earth becomes cool and the last one criteria is high humidity in the atmosphere so water droplet forms as a result of condensation. This is how a dew generally forms.
Quick bite:
Do you know that the dew drops act as a water supplement for some winter crops?
There is a crop known as Bengal gram that uses dew in winter for its growth. While sowing this crop, in some parts of India the land is ploughed in the evening to capture more dew and that soil moisture is used for sowing this crop.
Dew is also responsible for some disease incidence in crops.
